Lakeland Revival

May 8, 2008 – 20:00

Catherine and I have been watching the GOD channel over the past three days, there has been and still is a great outpouring of the holy spirit in Lakeland, Florida, and the GOD channel have been broadcasting it to the world (well most of it).

I don’t know what God is going to do, but I am sure that he is changing lives there in Florida and all over the world through the ministries of the leaders there. It is not without criticism, I don’t know enough about everyone involved to make up my mind, chances are I will never know till I get to meet my Lord face to face.

    2. I have added a page on my website concerning the Lakeland Revival, containing a caution and warning:

Not all revivals are genuine. Test the spirits to see if they are of God.

    3. It is in my nature to view things with suspicion and doubt, however faith for me is believing things I don’t understand.

It is right to test the spirits:

“Dear friends do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the spirit of God: Every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.” – 1 John 4:1-3 [NIV]

John Piper has a sermon which is very pertinent to the situation, and makes many of the points you included in your link. Something that hit both myself and my wife about Todd is how gentle and loving he is of the children that are brought up on stage, love is a fruit of the spirit.

      I appreciate the link.

    4. Todd needs to speak with the Christian community on a national level and back up what he is doing scripturaly. I don’t think anyone is questioning his salvation. I just think people want to know why he is calling on angels for everything. When you start calling on angels for money, red flags go up all over the place. Col 2:18 in context is very specific.

    5. I agree “red flags” are “going up all over the place” with what Todd is saying, from what I can gather similar flags have gone up over Patricia King’s ministry.

We need to watch and act with temperance, the issue with TV and media in general is it introduces a bias, we see what we think is happening however we don’t always know what is happening outside the services that are being televised.

      Segment from Col 2:

“Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.” – Col 2:16-19 [NIV]

    6. When I began watching this event, I was pretty excited. Two days later while I was in prayer about 7:00am in the morning in my studio I began thanking the LORD for all that he was doing in lakeland. But as I was praying my spirit was greived and I felt led to check out where Todd came from etc. I am not quick to believe everything on the internet but when I saw some of the quotes he was making I went right to scripture. The word of GOD always answers my questions. The problem is, this could cause a huge division in the body of CHRIST if we are not careful. We already have the more conservative Christians pounding the charismatics and vise versa. I was part of a healing and deliverance ministry for 5 years and saw many people be healed including myself. But I have never seen anyone go into a convulsive state after a deliverance. That is a manifistation that is present before the LORD sets that person free. The man who was posessed with legion in the bible was out his mind before he was delivered by JESUS. He wasn’t shaking at all after he was delivered, on the contrary he was at total peace. At the lakeland revival,I find it interesting that people are barking like dogs and crawling on the floor like snakes after they have been delivered. My question is, WHAT IS BEING IMPARTED INTO PEOPLE that creates these type of symptoms ? From my own experiance of 28 years as a Christian, when the HOLY SPIRIT heals, the peace of JESUS rests on that person and he or she is in total peace.
      GOD BLESS ………….

    7. I share Ron’s concerns above. I have updated my Lakeland Page with new videos and links to items that will aid our discernment. Art Katz’s booklet “The Anatomy of Deception” is an eye-opener! See also Susan Cummings item “The Gate of Surrender” as to what God is seeking from us today:

    8. A member of our fellowship group went to a meeting near Birmingham that is an off shoot of the Lakeland Revival. They came back obviously having been released from some difficulties they have struggled with for many year, feeling very happy with a new physical, spiritual and emotional freedom.

As not everyone in our group had heard of this movement (including me), it is unfortunate that they took any questions about it as personal criticism. We have tried to encourage them that God works in many different ways, and that works of the Spirit are always shown by their true fruit and that we are truly happy for their healing.

This event reminded me that I have experienced charismatic things from the late 80′s, having listened to people like John Wimber, Paul Cain and then people from the Toronto blessing in the 90′s. However what I honestly think matters in all these various movements is people’s lives being changed by God. Our trying to understand what has happened and analyse whether or not something is ‘scriptural’ seems like trying to put God in a box.

The apostle Paul reminds us in Galatians that the fruits of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control are evidence of God’s work. And it is for freedom that Christ has set us free. This is why discipleship that encourages us to trust, test and discern matters for ourselves is so important.

    9. There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed. I went to the revival and I wondered what was wrong with me all this talk about the presence of God. Around me were alll kinds of disturbing things people “Ministering to one another”. Others laughing and me wondering what is wrong with me do I know your presence at all? I came home feeling like I am nowhere spiritually and began to read about the revival from some well known men who were definitely not being critical to be critical and who were slowly issuing warnings. It is vey frustrating to come home to others who could not wait to go back including my pastor. Angels???????????Emma???and all this roughness. Tell me where Jesus was rough? To make a long story short thi8s was a good erxperience for me because I didn’t miss it at all but was right on the money and all the things that did’t seem right were not right. So those who are discerning within the church usually stand alone and think they are odd but God always reveals the truth. I hate the religious sham and I hope this encourages others you look to the Lord, you trust the Lord and He will never steer you wrong. He is not in these sideshows. He may show up out of mercy but I am sure he hates all the hullabaloo and wishes His people would just trust and believe in Him and seek Him and pray and worship and praise Him and He will lead them and He will neer lead them astray or into foolishness or sham or worship of angels or people. God bless you
