Bass, Bass Amp and FX Pedal

So after begging and borrowing the various parts I needed I finally have everything that would technically allow me to play a [[Wikipedia:bass guitar]], hopefully over the next few months I will have the time to dedicate to learning to play it properly. Had a bit of a play over the last day and it is great fun!

Ooops! I Did It Again

Monday, August 27th, 2007

Yes, it has come to that time of the year again that I remember that I was meant to be blogging more, in fact I made it a New Year’s resolution to blog more often, and that came to absolutely nothing and here we are almost 9 months later.

It has been a busy day, I have installed WordPress 2.2 both on here and on I Married You and removed almost all of the old site for storage space reasons, the only part of my website that is still there is my CS335 – Dissertation which several people link to, so I thought it only fair not to move that one. I will look through my University Stuff and see if any of it is worth bringing across to WordPress.

Work is going well, getting really stuck in to some cool stuff this year, commissioned a couple of new servers over the summer break which whilst mundane to most, to Systems Administrators it marks a progression in your environment, think of it as something akin to building another floor on your house or office block.

Now I remember why I don’t blog, I can’t think of what to say! Well, not at the moment at least hopefully WordPress will make it easier to blog more regularly as I have the tools to do so without having to worry about phpBB and my hacked together blog script… oh and look RSS!

Fogot to Blog

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

All the mad hat stuff going on arround here and I have been forgetting to blog, that said before this weekend there was virtualy nothing to blog about!

OK… will start from last Thursday, headed off to RiverCamp at about 10:30. For those that don’t know I am a Christian, I go to a church and count myself as part of an church organisation called Elim (Elim Foursquare Gospel Alliance technicaly) and RiverCamp is our yearly prayer, worship and teaching event. Jon and Carol Arnott were doing most of the teaching this year, which was great for the most part, even though I missed the teaching that you would get at Spring Harvest or similar. All in all it was a really great weekend I feel that RiverCamp is still very young and very much in its infancy but it is growning up fast, huge future ahead of us I am sure.

It seems to be all change season in Radio land, Hitch has left EVE-Radio, it wasn’t a huge surprise as Hitch is one of the more mature (as in responsable) DJs and it seems that there are certain members of E-R management and community who do not agree with his point of view, to the point of totaly annialating his farewell posts and banning his account. All is not lost however as Hitch is going to be creating some more THH Pod Casts, which is much better, because I can listen to them when I have time rather than having to stop listening half way through because I have to do some work or get some much needed sleep. In local radio land Juice FM‘s Brooksy is leaving the morning slot and moving up ‘t north, according to the Argus he is being suceeded by Terry Garagan… do do doo doo do do doo do, do do doo do doo da da, do do do doo do doo doo doo, Last Bus To Whitehawk.

Inteligent Bears in Croatia

Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Pete and Elkanah better be watching out, it seems that bears in Croatia (where they have gone for their honeymoon) have become “Brighter than the average bear”:
The Loknar family from Gerovo in western Croatia said the bear had knocked at their door three times and they were now refusing to answer the door.

Congratulations Pete & Elkanah!

Monday, July 4th, 2005

Congratulations Pete and Elkanah, welcome to the world of married life!

I feel that I redeamed myself somewhat I delivered my best mans speech on Saturday with only a couple of stutters and fluff ups and got a fair few laughs in the right place:

Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen –

I would like to start by thanking Pete on behalf of the bridesmaids for his kind comments and echo the fact that they look wonderful and performed their role fantastically.

Let me just say that the years I spent in the company of the groom means that he had as much of a part in developing my sense of humour as anyone. So, although I have tried to make this speech as funny as possible, please blame Pete if it’s not.

As some of you know, Pete was my best man nearly a year ago and he did a wonderful job. However Pete, there are many reasons why you should get married and I’m not sure if revenge is one of them.

Having never been a best man before, I was a little perplexed and wondered how I was going to go about it. My wife suggested the Internet as a first port of call, which bombarded me with a wealth of information, including a useful list of duties. But I was immediately stumped by one of them – ensure that the groom’s face and hair are in order. Well Pete, I have to say that if God didn’t get them in order the first time around, what chance did I have?

In writing this speech I did quite a bit of research on Pete’s history, so I thought I should search for Pete’s name on Google, and this is what I found:
• There are approximately 10,700,000 hits for Peter Arthur
• I discovered Pete is a Musician – that explains the guitar
• A Teacher – that explains the “Know it all attitude”
• A stock market trader with over a billion is assets – that explains the nightly take away meals.
• A Doctor of Biochemistry – that explains the contents of the fridge
• and a Scott – that explains everything else
I think you will all agree that Pete is a man of many talents!

I wonder who will be doing the cooking in the newest Arthur household? During the time Pete and I were house mates at university we spent some time cooking together. It was Pete’s job to do the cooking and my job to go from room to room removing batteries from the smoke alarms. So… which job would you prefer Elkanah

I feel as the best man and as a recently married man myself; I should impart some of my experience and knowledge I have gained from my married life:
• The most important phrase is “I’m Sorry”.
• The worst possible phrase is “I know I am right”.
• Socks are just socks; they are not worth arguing about.
• Be honest about each others cooking, or you will be eating it for the next 50 years of your lives.
• One good turn gets the duvet.

In all honesty and sincerity, Pete has been the best friend to me over the years I have known him; I have been really blessed by his friendship, kindness and understanding. I am sure everyone that knows him will not dispute that he is a really terrific guy.

I have not had much chance to spend time with Elkanah, however from the way Pete talks about her, and the way he speaks her name she is obviously the centre of Pete’s world, and today I can see why. Elkanah you look beautiful today.

It is an honour, all be it a most terrifying one, to have been asked to be the best man here today. However I do feel a certain relief to see the end of my duties in sight, as I’m totally certain that Pete will never have any need to ask me to be his best man again.

So now I come to my final wedding day duty which isn’t a duty really – it’s a real pleasure: on behalf of the bridesmaids and myself I sincerely wish you and your lovely wife, everlasting love and happiness!

It’s hot in Brighton

Monday, June 20th, 2005

Whilst some of the country is suffering flash floods and landslides, Brighton is boiling hot… fortunatly I work in a basement which keeps it quite cool for the moment, however last night was excruciatingly hot even with a fan on.

On another note, I think I am going to have to take a crash course in Microsoft Internet Information Services, as it is perfectly clear it has changed quite a bit since IIS4 (I believe it was re-written for IIS6) either way, I feel a little lost in it at the moment, all the functions are there… they are just in the wrong place.

Dr Who – The Transformation

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

If you missed it last night, you missed a bit of a treat… just in case some people haven’t seen it yet I won’t spoil the surprises. You can find the trailers and teasers for the whole series here

On another note, Catherine and I are feeling much better, we haven’t eaten much in the last couple of days so we are a little shakey on our feet, but on the mend. Hopefuly I will be well enough to go into work tomorrow.
